wish I could talk about concerns with certain ultraprocessed food without feeling like i'm rfk or something. I just think it's weird companies make garbage food that tastes so bad they have to add copious amounts of sugar so it tastes good. I was watching this interview with some execs & one of them is like "it's crazy, the cereal tastes like metal before this process" Awesome man. I love capitalism. we have advanced food science and we use it to make people less healthy for money. I say "certain ultraprocessed food" because it's not that food processing is inherently of the devil--you can process food in a way that adds nutrients rather than removes them or make foods more suitable for people with certain disabilities to consume--but the overwhelming majority of companies just keep fucking up everyone's colon like wtf. it's also interesting to see how food processing is used in products marketed for dieting. I buy these ultraprocessed protein bars that taste amazing but if I have more than two in a day my stomach explodes because they put SUCH a high concentration of certain nutrients in this one small thing that you can't consume it casually. pisses me off, i'm telling you. but you can't say this without feeling like you're an antivax mom orsomething

rin’s rival and your friend, isagi yoichi looked at you with wide surprised eyes. you looked over at rin with the softest of smiles and tenderest of eyes, propping your chin up on your palm — and there rin was, nodding along and listening to anri’s words.
“rin? itoshi rin?” isagi spluttered out.

to other's, rin's beauty must have been what you were after. what more could you want from the cold, unnerving, and intimidating itoshi rin? what more could a monster of a boy like that offer? at least that's what others thought.
rin captured the beauty of angels, a face so pretty and sharp like the most delicate of daggers. long beautiful lashes that framed teal eyes so intense they could silence the world around you. soft lips seamed with dark pink nips and bites from his teeth. and of course, rin was an athlete, so what more could a girl want when her boyfriend was corded with muscle?
while you acknowledged and appreciated rin's beauty, it could never be the sole reason for why he was so dreamy. no, that would diminish all the beautiful things that made rin rin.
rin was dreamy for the way he treated you.

isagi looked at you for a moment longer, noticing the way your eyes lit up suddenly. like any curious person would, he followed the line of your sight until it landed upon the man himself.

Something most people don't talk about enough of is decision fatigue
Average adults make around 33,000 decisions a day and teachers have to make 1,500 more every school day, which leads to decision fatigue
Bruce might've been able to cook here and there at the beginning, but the moment u throw in a child(ren), mentoring that child(ren), Batman, Brucie, being a CEO, and the Justice League......
Yeah no, he's going to be burnt out and Alfred's right there with a steaming pot of stew :]
I like the headcannon that Bruce’s brain never shuts off and he’s always thinking of something.
That’s enough to make a normal person tired so he’s got to make sacrifices. One of those sacrifices is making himself meals to eat
He just doesn’t have the mental capacity to choose what to make, make sure it has enough nutrients and calories, and make sure it’s edible. He leaves it up to the man that raised him the majority of his life.
Alfred can and will make food in advance for Bruce cause he can sense when the man needs some comfort food. He’ll be in the middle of a case and he’s so fucking hungry so he trudges his way upstairs, resigned to making an unenthused sandwich, but there’s a plate of pot roast just for him and all he has to do is heat it up
Bruce always himself this tiny reprieve of not having to think about food too often. He can focus on other things that require his attention as Bruce Wayne and Batman.

Human's Are Space Orcs: Sticks and Stones
Tools are hardly uncommon in the Galactic Federation. Without them, not a single species would have been able to advance, create sustainable food sources, societies, spacecraft. But, for most species, tools have advanced alongside the species.
"Human Jane, what is that you are holding?"
"A stick."
"... Why do you have a stick?"
"In case I need to scratch my back, duh. Or to hit the engine if it acts up again."
Humans, as with much else, didn't get the memo.
Chi'l'zak had spent several cycles with humans, even spending time on their native planet and some of their interstellar colonies. Their weather was horrifying, and their culture so diverse it gave xem whiplash. It was on one of these trips that xe learned of the human's particular affinity for tools.
Xe was at what Human Sarah had called a 'beach' at one of the colonies, and xe saw as an adolescent human began to dig a fire pit. Except, instead of using a shovel, he had grabbed a nearby piece of driftwood and began to use it to dig. Xe was certain the efforts would be fruitless, the stick being rounded and not suitable for digging. But in twenty minutes there was a pit a meter deep, deeper if one counted the walls the adolescent human had made from the excavated sand.
Xe had brushed it off as human stubbornness and continued with xir trip unfazed, until Human Lake had wanted to go hiking. Chi'l'zak agreed, not truly understanding the point of simply walking up and down mountains but willing to try the experience and see if maybe xe could gain some anthropological notes on the subject. Halfway up the mountain Human Lake called a halt. he wandered into the trees for a moment and returned with a stick almost as tall as he was.
"We can rest here for a while. I've been needing a new walking stick, and this one's just gorgeous."
"But, Hu- Lake, why do you need walking assistance? You have been perfectly fine up until this point. Are you injured? Should I apply first aid?"
"Nah, I'm fine, 'zak. I don't need one, they're just nice to lean on when you're hiking. Plus their fun to have. makes me feel like a wizard, y'know? But I gotta smooth this one down if I'm gonna use it, or I'll have splinters in my hands for days."
Chi'l'zak didn't mind the rest, and took the time to simply observe the flora and fauna in the area, absorb some nutrients from xir pack of supplies, and-
*scrape* *scrape* *scrape*
As Chi'l'zak looked over, xe found Human Lake seated on the ground, legs fcrossed in a manner that was normal for humans but made xir fur stand on end. He had balanced the stick across his legs, and was scraping it with a rock he'd apparently found nearby.
"Human Lake, what are you doing?"
"Smoothing out the stick, like I said." He didn't look up from the task he'd set himself too, continuing to scrape the rock along the stick, occasionally hitting it against small branches to knock them off.
"Yes, but why are you using a rock? Surely there are better tools. I have heard tell of a common smoothing agent, 'sand paper,' that would be better suited to the task."
"Don't have sandpaper on me. Besides, the premise works the same. Rub two rough things together and the softer things gets smooth. Sure, a rock isn't going to have as fine a grain as some sandpapers, but it works in a pinch."
"but we are not in a 'pinch', as you say. We are perfectly capable of taking the stick back with us and getting sand paper."
"Look, the rock works just fine for me, and it's cheaper. No point wasting money when i have the tools to do the job already."
"Human lake, that is a rock. That isn't a tool."
"Sure it is, if you get creative enough. You can use it to smooth things, hit things, if you angle it like this you can probably use it to dig, and you could always throw it. Hell, I'll bet you this end here could be used to open that stupid finnicky pressure lock Jacob's been complaining about."
"But it isn't mean to do those things. It could damage the lock worse, or break the wrong things."
"Look, 'zak, i appreciate the concern, but a tool is what you make of it. If I've got some nails I need hammered down and all I've got to hand is a rock, then I'm going to use the rock until the rock breaks or the nails are hammered. Just because we have tools better designed for a task doesn't always mean we need to use them. Sometimes old ways work just fine."
Chi'l'zak was quiet the rest of the time Human Lake used the stone to smooth the surface of his new walking stick, and had quite the interesting talk with him the rest of the hike about old human tools, how they were used, selected or constructed. Xe learned about spears and bows and how some still used those tools for hunting. Learned of tools used in leatherworking, all made of bone since the first leatherworkers had found nothing better to work with, and modern human's hadn't either.
"Anthropological Notes: Humans are excellent at creating and using tools, as are most other species. However, humans are slow to abandon old types of tools, some using the same methods prevalent centuries ago in order to complete a task simply because they have the old tools to hand. Humans are also adept at improvising tools, able to use one item for many different functions depending on their needs.
In relation to Incident 739, human crewmembers should not be allowed to bring items such as sticks or rocks on board without prior authorization, lest the engine be completely dismantled again."

hello angels! so it’s been almost 2 months since i’ve been active on here & it’s simply just been due to me focusing a lot of my time and energy into my academics, career, & personal life! i’m nearing the end of my program with my externship just being one month away! as with a lot of us, the spring semester is slowly but surely coming to an end! and that means finals are just around the corner! i wanted my “comeback” to be some of my helpful tips, tricks, & tidbits of advice for getting through finals and making sure you pass with flying colors!
also, thank you so so much for 1.2k!! i didn’t expect to gain such an influx of followers while i was gone! it means so much to me that so many of you have supported my blog even during my inactivity/unexpected hiatus! i can’t promise i’ll be coming back completely as i have my externship coming up, so i’ll be very busy the next few months! but i hope to continue to post every now and again for you angels!

let’s begin …
୨ৎ — pre-finals prep
it’s important to start prepping for finals in advance! finals may be 4-5 weeks away, but it never hurts to get a head start in your preparations!
create a checklist! — you can always start by making yourself a list or two for everything you need to get yourself prepared for that intimidating finals week! these lists could be a list of different study materials you’ll need, a list in order of priority of the different classes you need to study for, a list of supplies you’ll need to get yourself through the week (& yes, this can include snacks or any self-care stuff!), or even a list of different topics from your classes that you feel need a bit more of your attention! checklists are an amazing tool to use to keep yourself organized and can help you visual what needs to get done or what needs to be obtained!
plan out the weeks! — designate a day in your week where you take some time to plan out your weeks prior to finals week and the week of! include time blocks where you set aside time to study and time to take breaks and rest your mind & body! add small, achievable to-do lists for each day or a bigger, more broad one for each week! weekly planning can give you a tangible idea of what your weeks leading up to finals and the week of will look like, so don’t hesitate to give it a try or incorporate that into your weekly routine!
tina’s tip: utilize your phone’s calendar app! i do almost everything digitally and i’ve been making great use of the Apple calendar to plan out my weeks! it’s a great way to color code different events, classes, appointments, assignments, etc. & if you’re also someone who wants to get into digital planning it’s a great first step into getting into it!
prioritize & maintain good health! — i’m saying this with love, but pulling all-nighter’s every single day leading up to finals is not going to guarantee the best scores for you. you need to make sure your health is where it needs to be! sleep is absolutely vital to making sure your mind and body is working at its very best. as someone who used to be an insomniac and who used to religiously pull all-nighter’s for school, i’m telling you it is not worth it. i didn’t see any improvement in my grades when i was doing that. if anything, my scores and my motivation for school got worse. you can’t just go all night racking your brain over your studies. prioritize your health! this also means making sure you fuel your brain and body with good nutrients! when i’m only running on caffeine, not only do i feel physically weak, but my mind is using so much more energy on becoming anxious than staying focused.
tina’s tip: make sure you set aside time at least once or twice a week to something that makes you happy, helps you relax, and is not related to your academics! i have a rule for myself that after 7:30pm-8pm every single night that i immediately stop working on anything related to my studies so that i can truly unwind for the night. i’ll use my time before bed to have a self-pamper night, play video games, watch a show/movie/youtube video, draw, read, or chat with a friend on facetime! it’s important to include things that bring you joy into your routine! don’t burn yourself out by only focusing on your studies!
୨ৎ — the study wave
try to give yourself at least two weeks in advance to study for finals. consider these two weeks as the study wave! this is the perfect time to really lock into those time-blocks you’ve set aside for your study sessions. each day should be filled with review & ensuring you fully understand the material! the time-blocks could be as long as 5 hours or as short as 30 minutes. i recommend the start of the study wave to include longer study time-blocks and as you get closer to the week of finals to shorten those time-blocks!
week 1 of study wave — reteaching yourself the material: rewatch lectures, review powerpoints/videos/notes/previous homework assignments, and incorporate study methods like the feynman technique, practice tests, & active recall! use this time to form study groups, don’t hesitate to have longer study sessions (remember to take breaks!), and refresh your mind of everything you need to know for upcoming exams! let week 1 help you decide what material/topics/chapters/classes need more of your time and attention and which ones don’t!
tina’s tip: dedicate certain days out of the week to 1-2 classes! this will help to prevent any overwhelming feelings of stress, anxiety, and/or burn-out as you prepare for finals! prioritize which class(es) need the most review, maybe a couple classes need more than one designated study/review day and maybe other classes just need one day throughout the week!
week 2 of study wave — refresh & review: utilize study methods like the blurting method, flashcards, practice tests, & other forms of active recall! this is prime time to focus on active recall methods. doing so will help make sure the information stays fresh in your mind and will help you refine that mental list of which classes/topics still need a little more attention! week 2 of the study wave should included shorter study sessions whether it’s 1 or 2 hours shorter than week 1 or even as short as setting aside 20 minutes every day reviewing material. take this time to try and focus more on those more challenging topics rather than reviewing every single bit of information!
tina’s tip: if you use the blurting method, i recommend using it towards the end of your study sessions! this allows you to recall information as well as put it into your own words that will show whether or not you comprehend the material. review what you’ve written down based off of memory and identify any missing points or errors in your work! this will also help you refine what bits of information still need more focus! repeat this method 3 times!
i highly encourage you guys to also use this time to meet with professors/instructors to ask any additional questions! you’d be surprised at how much of a difference it makes to ask those pressing questions on different parts of the material!
୨ৎ — finals week
it’s extremely important that you are getting enough rest the week of finals! it all sounds cliché, but making sure you’re well-rested and you’ve filled your body with the right nutrients can make such a crucial difference in your exam performance!
if you have time in-between different exams, use that time to do quick review sessions to prepare for your next exam!
avoid cramming! — these in-between study sessions should be used wisely and in an effective manner. take some time to focus on material that has been challenging for you and don’t worry too much about reviewing parts that you’re already confident with!
keep the review short! — if you have 30 minutes or even a couple hours before your next final, do not use the entire time of your “break” to study/review! give your mind a break to rest! listen to some music, play a cozy game, or even take a quick nap if you’re able to! a lot of your mental energy should be put into your time taking the exam, so don’t expend all that energy into studying/reviewing!
final notes —
finals can be exhausting, anxiety-inducing, and just an overall challenge. since it’s that time of the semester where, i’m sure, most of us are starting to experience a drop in the level of our academic motivation, it’s really important to maintain a good and reliable study/school routine to keep yourself on the track you ideally want to be on!
i stress this a lot in my other posts, but self-care is extremely important in being able to maintain good routines in your day to day life! so be sure you’re still incorporating time to focus on your self care to keep yourself afloat!

the nutrition thing is so frustrating. it's just good sense to tell people to "check with their doctors" about all this stuff, and it's ethically necesarry to say that when advising anyone on the internet about it, and i'm not saying we shouldn;t, BUT to be perfectly honest i have never had a doctor give a shit about nutritional deficiencies beyond occasionally doing basic tests and then refusing to entertain any further investigation or treatment if the tests turned up in the normal ranges. none of them were aware of the tissue levels vs serum levels problem at all, many of them were dismissive when i told them about it. a doctor recently sent me trekking to a lab in person for a celiac marker test without knowing or informing me first that you cannot test for celiac markers without the patient eating gluten at high rates for at least 8 weeks beforehand, because, and both of us should have guessed this beforehand without being told because it is obvious but in my case it's because i read a lot of papers and in her case it is because she is a fucking doctor, unless your body has enough gluten inside of it to be reacting to at the time the blood is drawn, you will get a false negative. so she wasted both our time! and we still don't know if i have celiac or not!
it goes without saying that making an appointment with an allergist had to be booked out ten months in advance. still waiting.
the POTS anemia thing is so obscure, despite it, again, being a common sense result of not having enough blood, that i had never heard about it anywhere including in any POTS-specific writing by POTS experts until i read that one paper i linked to.
i think this issue is especially bad in America because nutrition is a national blind spot. every patient is assumed to have access to adequate nutrients when they walk in the door. we think that everyone in the country eats "too many calories" and is "fat" due to a personal state of sinfulness. underweight patients are considered admirable anomalies until you get down below like a 16 BMI, at which point you are assumed to be crazy and have an eating disorder. having low blood pressure is also treated like something the patient deserves to be complimented on, instead of a symptom. salt is considered poison. reducing salt is the primary intervention in all high blood pressure conditions despite it, again, having had dogshit evidence behind it for decades. autoimmune and dysautonomic conditions are never suspected, tested for or treated without the patient spending ten years fighting about it. postviral sequelae are treated like hysteria again, despite decades of evidence to the contrary.
ive never even met a doctor who knew that taking a multivitamin can fuck up your test results for thyroid markers because biotin will mask the results in both directions!
it's incredibly frustrating when ethical common sense demands that you encourage people to take care of their own safety by 'checking with their doctor' when doctors are apparently being trained roughly at the level of the school of Hippocrates, where they use augury and the colors of the local pigs to diagnose the patient and none of them have read any research at all

it was like nagging a petulant child. here you are with your hands on your hips, sternly glancing at the man in front of you who sat composed. his stature relaxed if it wasn't for the subtle tense of his muscles, how his eyes, despite trying to be calm— were lowkey glaring daggers at you.
"there are other source of nutrients that are considerably higher in beta-carotene-"
"those vegetables are currently out of stock. it was just convenient that this good old orange crunch is available," you replied, trying to hold back a laugh at his diverse expressions.
well, truth be told. you can find the other ingredients elsewhere, but this was what came in a clutch. aaaaaaand of course, you wouldn't miss this oppurtunity to make fun of him.
he sighs, as if HE is the one who is scolding you.
"my condition is not that serious, dear." Zayne says calmly.
"it's not my fault that you've overworked badly your eyes have been strained," you shook your head. grabbing a spoonful of the vegetable. "I wouldn't have known that if it wasn't for the nurse. were you even planning on telling me?"
Zayne softens up at your reply. muttering an apology as he drags you into his lap, "subtly" placing the spoon in your hands back at the plate. hoping that his looks would distract you from noticing his advances. no matter how ridiculous he looked like right now.
"I'm sorry, I should've informed you first."
"I know," you smiled, a bit too cheerful for his liking. smoothly grabbing back the utensil. "now say ah,"
"......hmph."
you could've almost missed it. a soft sound of puff, followed by a growing blush from his neck to ears. avoiding your gaze as he pretended he hadn't done that.
"fine, since you so insist." he deflects. taking a begrudging bite of the food.
"there there," you chuckled. patting his hair teasingly.
"we're buying other vegetables besides.... that thing after this," he grumbles, ".....and sweets."
"along with lattes." you smiled. glad he was at least (cutely) cooperating.
"now say ah-"
"I know how to eat my food, thank you."

Hailing from the harsh planet of Ettera, Knights are the only sophont in the Zhagaviit system made of two consciousnesses. ---
At last, here they are! Nearly finished with redesigning every Vivere 44 species. These guys are retconned werewolves which I posted about some time ago. You might have noticed I brought back some space unicorn aspects as well! They've been through so many design changes but I've finally settled on something solid.
More information below!
I'll try to keep this concise. Most of this info is introductory biology.
Knights are the only sophonts living on Ettera, a mostly barren planet where survival is tough. Their civilisation is the least advanced compared to others in Zhagaviit, such as Arrows and Sea Crawlers. They were the third species to be contacted by the ZGC (Zhagaviit Galactic Community) followed by Post Humanity. Knights are known for being hardy, efficient, and motivated.
If it isn't already clear enough, Knights are two species in a symbiotic relationship acting as one individual. Helmets and Hosts have an evolutionary history so intertwined that one cannot survive without the other.
The Helmet is attached to the head of the Host, and will remain there for the rest of their life (unless separation happens - but we'll get into that later). In the relationship, their role is vision and dexterity. Since the Host is effectively blind, it is the Helmet's job to guide them. Their hands are also important, being the Knight's primary manipulators. They played a large part in early tool use. The Helmet lacks a mouth, and receives all its nutrients from the Host through a specialised organ not unlike an umbilical cord.
The Host is essentially the main body of the Knight. Wolflike and mammalian in nature, the Host is the Helmet's mode of transportation. Because they need to eat for two, Hosts are omnivorous and will eat just about anything. Although majority of their diet is comprised of meat, they are capable of digesting plant matter and bones. They are highly skilled and effective hunters.
It is in both party's best interests to assimilate as soon as possible. The Host cannot see without a Helmet, and within a few weeks bonding will become impossible. The stakes are higher for a newborn Helmet, because they cannot feed by themselves and will starve in under a week without a Host or an artificial feeder tube. Prior to first contact with the ZGC, Knights did not have the technology for artificial feeders, and infant death rates were high.
So how do two beings coordinate one body? The fact is that once assimilation occurs, they become one being. The Helmet's brain and the Host's brain are connected by millions of nerves exchanging signals. It's complicated, but the best way to describe the experience would be a 'mutual trance' in which full body coordination is achieved. They have shared interests and intentions. However, a Knight can mentally separate the Helmet and the Host, gaining back individuality; they do this for many reasons, perhaps to discuss something among themselves or simply for company. Yet on the whole, a Knight will spend 80% of their life in this 'trance'.
Both Helmets and Hosts have noticeable sexual dimorphism. Male Helmets are called Pikes, and females are called Guards. Pikes are distinguished by their horn, bold stripes, and more prominent crest spines. Guards lack a horn and have less contrast in their thinner markings.
Female Hosts are called Forts. They are larger than males and have a mane of fur on the back of their necks. Male Hosts, Spires, lack this mane.
In Knight society, individuals are usually referred to based on their combination of Host and Helmet. Since there are four sexes involved, there are four possible combinations.

(Knight languages have their own version of pronouns for each, but in English all are referred to as they/them by default. Of course, each individual has their own preferences. Usually a Knight will refer to themselves as we/us).
